Latest Research

Here we publish our latest research which can take the form of research reports, journalism, working papers or presentations mainly by the team but occasionally about the team.

The team is currently working on regional development issues in Wales on an ESRC IAA project with Federation of Small Businesses (Wales) funding. The first preliminary outcomes is this presentation:

Julie Froud, Sukhdev Johal, Adam Leaver and Karel Williams “When was Wales” given at the Welsh Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods on 11th December 2014 in Cardiff

This builds on earlier work into Scottish economic policy choices which highlights the absence of imagination in the Scottish government’s industrial policy and proposes a new development model:

Sukhdev Johal, Adam Leaver and Karel Williams,  “A new development model for Scotland” given at the Scottish TUC post referendum conference on "Decent Work Dignified Lives” on October 15th in Glasgow.

Our foundational economy thinking is developed with an argument about “ the grounded city” in an interesting piece of journalism from the Guardian Cities web pages, written with two European colleagues Ewald Engelen and Angelo Salento

Ewald Engelen, Sukhdev Johal, Angelo Salento and Karel Williams (2014) “How to build a fairer city”

Grounded firms feature in another presentation for the Wales TUC event on “ Economic Democracy: Debating Industrial Policy in Wales” on Januart 20th 2015
